European Universities Futsal Championships in Tampere, in the summer of 2011
The first ever European Universities Championships organized in the Nordic Countries, will be held in Tampere between the 16th and the 24th of July in 2011, where both men and women will be competing for the championship titles in futsal.
Around 16 to 24 top teams from all over Europe are expected to participate in the men’s category. For women, the amount of teams is expected to be from 8 to 16. This will equal a total amount of 300-500 athletes attending and enjoying the Finnish summer. Not to mention delegations, referees of international status and so forth, which will increase the total number of participant by at least ten per cent.
In the past wedding dress guest, the European Universities Futsal Championships has been rich in terms of talented teams and players across Europe. To mention just one, the former champion – The University of Málaga – won their league in 2009, which is the second highest in Spain, and played for promotion to the most prestigious futsal league in the world - División de Honor. In the previous years, several teams have been full of national team players – many of them watched by agents for professional leagues.
In 2011, no World Championships, European Championships or Students’ World Championships will be held in futsal. That is to say, EUC Futsal 2011 in Tampere is the most notable futsal tournament next year in Europe. Finland and the city of Tampere are proud and excited to organize this great sporting event. Hosting the UEFA women's EURO 2009 proved the capabilities Finland has for organizing tournaments of this magnitude. Fast and entertaining futsal is expected to conquer the hearts of the Finns, when this great sport becomes more acquainted with the audience.
